I need help with my overdrive. 200 1988

My '88 240's overdrive will not disengage no matter what I do. When I depress the button the gaer shifter, it still will not disable it. I want an easy solution, a way to disable it permenantly, perhaps. Please help this is real irritant and I am concerned about putting unnessasary wear on my engine.

    why disable it? the car will downshift out of it when it has to. there's no need to come out of od unless you are trying to climb a steep hill. it's possible the od controls are bypassed because someoone couldn't get in to od. good luck, chuck.
