Replaced ECU in '89 240...Car starts but won't keep running....Why? 200 1989

Newbie Question...I've replaced the ECU and the car now starts but only runs for 10-15 seconds. It will restart right away, but again only runs for a few seconds. I've also checked the fuel system relay and the air flow meter both checkout ok. What should I check next? Thanks!

    What made you think that the ECU was bad? Assuming that the car wouldn't even start initially, then the ECU was probably bad since it will at least run now. Given that, I'd check the connector plug on the AMM. I had one of the little itty bitty prong things slide back when I was pushing the connector back onto the AMM. You'll have to examine the AMM connector closely. If there's a clip prong thingy that's pushed back up into the connector, then you'll need to get a little screwdriver or something to keep it in place when you re-connect the cable.

    If it ain't the ECU or the AMM, then I'd start looking at fuel delivery problems, i.e., fuel pump, filter, etc.

    I just sold an '89 ECU on E-bay. Was it you who bought it?

    I would also look at the AMM. Unplug it and see if the car will Idle for you.

    Firstly explain why you changed the ECU... what was the problem.
    It could be one of many things now, you need to give more information.
    Check codes of course (see 700 faq, same thing)
    Could be AMM, temp sensor, ignition parts OK?, clogged cat, and others....

    Just a thought...

    Check to see if throttle body is clean and the TPS is properly adjusted

    What codes does your new ECU give you? The code reader is under the hood on the driver side on the strut tower by the firewall. You will find tables for these codes in both Bentley and Haynes.
