Pulled code 212 and 231 200 1990

Greetings

I am new to the volvo world. i was basically given this 90 240 with a few issues and would like to get it running better. i am using it to drive in my rather tough commutes to school and work becaus they are taking a toll my my 91 audi 80 quattro. I have the factory service manuals and i followed the procedure to pull the stored codes out of the ECU. what came up were 212 and 231. the car runs great when it is cold. after it gets hot, it never seems to get better until the next day. it hesitates and misses like crazy. it has 189k on the clock. any idea? the codes are lambda sensor related but i hear that there could be other issues.

TIA
JJ

You can also get a Bosch O2 sensor for a Ford Mustang, they are under 40 dollars at Autozone. You will need to cut and splice as well, but you are getting a Bosch sensor that is identical to the one for Volvos except for the cable connectors.

For more info do a search here on the Board on Ford Mustang.

Both codes point to a faulty O2 sensor. You might check the water temperatue sensor also & make sure throttle body is clean & TPS is adjusted properly.

    Good Luck!

Thanks! I tested the Throttle position sensor using the second tests that check calibration. that worked out fine. so it looks like it is O2 sensor time. i noticed that it is a 3 wire setup. is there a generic sensor i can buy and attach my connector to?

FCP Groton has a 3-wire generic O2 sensor by Walker for about $50. You just have to cut & splice the wires... www.fcpgroton.com. Search the archives here about precautions to protect the new sensor during installation. I know silicone-based lubricants & sprays will destroy it. I don't think you want to solder the wires due to the heat generated...search for advice.

        Good Luck!
