Front door speakers - no signal with new CR-814 700 1992

Hi all,
Finally got the CR-814 to replace my old CR-718 which is supposed to run all 6 speakers (my front doors have wires but came with no speakers from factory) and I get no signal there. The amp is plugged in and the front speaker wires go into the back of the radio (according to the color) so I think everything is wired up right but still no sound. The other four speakers work fine. My car is a 92 740 turbo wagon which came equipped with front dash and rear door speakers but just the wires and speaker grilles in the front door. I don't know what else I can do - does anybody have any ideas? Perhaps the radio is just broke? Or do I have to manually splice in the front door speakers to the dash ones in parallel and add the 4 ohm resistors or something? I can't believe they would have the Volvo techs doing that if the customer wanted the upgraded radio.
Thanks in advance,
Robb McC

Front door speakers - no signal with new CR-814- Solved 700 1992

Thanks all,
Thru much poring over the archives I discovered that there were two amps - 2 channel (like the one in my car for the 4 speaker CR-718) and then the 4 channel amp for the 6 speakers on the CR 814. Amps drive either the rear 2 or rear 4 speakers and the head unit drives the dash speakers. All the wiring and connectors are in place for the 6 speaker setup. So I just need to find a 4 channel amp at the junk yard.
Thanks again for your input.
Robb

Your CR-814 should support the front dash speakers directly, and another two pairs from the amp. Don't just look at the colors of the wires, though! Check the individual pin-outs for the radio and the amp, and trace the wiring from the connectors to the speakers and between the various components. (If, for example, you used the factory sub-harness and inadvertently swapped the connectors for the head unit and the amp?)
The output for the dash speakers from the CR-814 is speaker level, the others are pre-amp level. Not recommended that you try runing the dash output from the head through the amp unless you have a source of replacement parts. How about making up a test 4-ohm speaker with a pair of leads on it?
Also not recommended that you run pairs of speakers in parallel unless they are both 8-ohm, on a 4-ohm circuit.
Just for the hell of it, check your fader control.
Also see notes elsewhere on the bboard about dust / crud in the pots, and fixes- that can play hob with the output and make you think the radio or parts of it are dead.
Let us all know what you find and how you fix it.

You should not have to splice in the front speakers manually. The cr-814 itself should power a pair of your speakers directly (ie without going through the amp).

I thought that the cr-814 powers the dash speakers, and the amp powers the other four. Just an assumption because after replacing my td6141 with the
cr-814, my front door speakers did not play the high frequencies as well as the rear door speakers ('90 745t.. only front and rear door speakers factory). I just guessed that the cr-814 had an internal crossover since the 940's have the dash speakers for the highs...

Check around the amp to see if the wires that go from the front door to the radio don't have any connectors that are undone.

Perhaps the cr-814 has an internal or external fuse for the amp??

If all else fails, just splice the fronts together after the amp. They're cheap to replace if it complains..
