Your CR-814 should support the front dash speakers directly, and another two pairs from the amp. Don't just look at the colors of the wires, though! Check the individual pin-outs for the radio and the amp, and trace the wiring from the connectors to the speakers and between the various components. (If, for example, you used the factory sub-harness and inadvertently swapped the connectors for the head unit and the amp?)
The output for the dash speakers from the CR-814 is speaker level, the others are pre-amp level. Not recommended that you try runing the dash output from the head through the amp unless you have a source of replacement parts. How about making up a test 4-ohm speaker with a pair of leads on it?
Also not recommended that you run pairs of speakers in parallel unless they are both 8-ohm, on a 4-ohm circuit.
Just for the hell of it, check your fader control.
Also see notes elsewhere on the bboard about dust / crud in the pots, and fixes- that can play hob with the output and make you think the radio or parts of it are dead.
Let us all know what you find and how you fix it.
