230FT Fuel injector O-ring replacement 700 1988

230FT Fuel injector O-ring replacement:

With 202K miles on my 230FT I figured it was time to replace the O-rings and have the injectors professionally cleaned. I bought Bosch parts set (part# 1 287 010 704) which contained 3 o-rings, 1 grey support ring and 1 yellow protective sleeve. There were WORKSHOP INSTRUCTIONS included in the kit, which noted that; " The old protective sleeve must not be removed from injection valves with yellow supporting plate."

I have yellow supporting plates on my injectors. Does it mean that I cannot replace the protective sleeve with the new yellow sleeve that came with the kit?

How do I replace the lower O-ring without pulling off the protective sleeve?

I have studied the excellent Brickboard FAQ as well as Mike Ponte's injector cleaning page.

Does anyone have any experience to share

If you are having them professionaly cleaned, you don't need to buy new o rings/seals. The places that clean them will replace them with new ones as part of the cleaning service. Please visit www.cruzinperformance.com for more details.

      Thanks for info and link.

I guess I should have written semi-professionally cleaned, since this local company only uses a ultra-sound bath without the electrical hook up. In order to get a treatment such as cruzinperformance, I have to send them away, and I can't be without this car for that long.

In anyone's opinion: Am I wasting my time (a couple of hours) and money by having the injectors cleaned in a static ultra-sonic bath?

Then I'm back to my original question...should I replace the protective sleeve

If you have access to a junkyard, you could get four compatible injectors and have them sent out to get cleaned. I think you can get junkyard injectors for something like $3-5 each.

You will not be wasting your time with ultrasonic cleaning only. This will clean the entire injector.

However, there is a good chance that the things that it loosens or breaks up will still remain inside the injector ready to cause a clog when you reinstall it.

Seriously, if you are going to consider paying to get them done, then I would strongly recommend www.cruzinperformance.com for $12 an injector for ultrasonic and pressure cleaning AND flowtesting AND new seals, you just can't go wrong.

        Hope this helps.

        Mike

If you want to, you can buy the set I just got back from cruzinperformance. (Actualy they should arrive today or tomorrow at my house.)

I just found out about ford browntops injectors and want to put them in my car instead of the volvo greentops.

I can email you my cruzinperformance results page if you are interested. It has the date they were clean and the before and after test results.

FYI cruzinperformance puts a serial number on the injectors they clean. So you can be assured that you will be getting the cleaned injectors.

All you pay for is the total price of cruzinperformance service ($57) plus $24 for the injectors ($6 per injector) plus shipping cost to your address.

FYI, Cruzinperformance charges $12 per injector plus return shipping. This is why the total is $57 and not $48.
