Washer Nozzle & wiper linkage parts 444-544

With the dash off, not that hard of a job, working on the wipers and washers is a whole lot easier.

Looking at the washers, I noticed the little screws that go into the end of the nozzles are missing. I didn't need the dash off to find this but it got me looking. Is there anything unique about these little screws or will any short screw work? New nozzles are about $35. Pretty pricy little screws.

I found the problem with the wiper travel problem on the driver side. The little plate on the spindle that fits on top of the wiper bracket has two little nubs that are suppose to fit into holes in the bracket. The bracket was bent not allowing this plate to be secure and in turn, the whole spindle rotated too far. A little bend to the bracket and all is snug.
I also noticed the little plastic inserts are pretty worn at both the spindle and motor ends of the linkage arms. Any chance of finding replacements?

I would really like to get the wipers working as good as possible. I can't imagine working on them with the dash and all the wires and cables back.

I've had my wipers out - had to lightly refurb them when I first revived my car from it's 17 year slumber. It was NOT fun, although I have to say it was easier that working on the wipers in my 1800E.

Initially mine moved very slowly and drew a lot of current. Most of the problem was worn brush material filling in all the gaps on the commutator, allowing current to bypas the windings and go directly to the other brush. Cleaned that out, regreased the bushings and it... Well, they are still vintage wipers, no doubt about it. They work passably now. And I generally don't drive the PV in bad weather anyhow.

Plastic replacements will be difficult to find. I've made a lot of bushings, sleeves, and washers out of teflon. I just re-bushed the throttle plate shaft on my carb, and it works great. If I had the dimensions, I could perhaps fabricate them for you. My E-mail is jimb@grandsavingsbank.net
