Oil delivery tube questions 200 1983

I was recently inside my B23's bottom end to replace the oil pump, delivery tube and seal, and drill an oil return in the block. Upon closing it all up, I discovered that I was getting lower than expected oil pressure at idle, especially when hot. I have heard that the oil delivery tubes can vary widely in fit, and I suspect that the new tube I installed was not fully seating in the block. Installing it into the pump body, I felt a very positive engagement, but I never felt that on the block end.

Furthermore, the new tube I purchased from the dealer was crush bent, and generally looked to be of inferior build quality to the original I pulled out (mandrel bent, better alignment of tube ends.) I modified the retaining rings on the new tube with the JBWeld method described in the FAQ, and I have since done this to the original tube as well. I am going to open her up again tomorrow and most likely swap the original tube back in to see if it fits better.

Has anybody else experienced poor fit from a replacement tube, or had a problem similar to this?

Oil delivery tube questions 200 1983

Yes, I have experienced problems will oil delivery tube fit. The oil delivery tube I removed from the 1994 B230FT was a loose fit. I used a different tube when I assembled the engine, and I had to carefully drive it into place with a mallet, using a wood block as a cushion against the delivery tube.

When Installing the delivery tube I watched closely and could tell when it was fully seated. I don't expect any oil pressure problems on this engine when it goes into service.
