rear trailing arm bushings 200 1991

i plan on installing poly bushings.i want to leave the old metal sleeves on the car, remove the rubber inside and put on the poly bushings.this way i avoid the hassle of removing the whole bushings.i realize removing the rubber may be a chore.any ideas or comments on the plan and of the choice of poly over rubber.

WFT? The original bushing is rubber molded to inner and outer metal sleeves. Replacement bushings come the same way, whether they are rubber or poly. (The exception is the sway bar bushings.) Just press out the old bushings and press in the new ones, complete with the inner and outer sleeves.

What you say you are planning on doing is illogical, a huge unnecessary effort, and would be, quite frankly, a waste of time.

I see that IPD has that new bushing I would like to know how hard it is to get the new bushing in and do they work as good are better than the stock ones.

Free advice is often worth just that. The poly RTA bushings do reuse the old shells, burn the rubber out with a propane torch, as others have advised watch the gas tank and have someone stand by with a fire extinguisher. It does not take that much heat, the rubber turns soft then catches fire, stinks to high heaven and will leave residue in the shells, I had an old round wire brush that fit inside, stuck it in a drill and ran it in and out, cleaned the shells up nicely.

Actually, the poly trailing arm bushings do re-use the steel sleeves... It seems that burning them out is the preferred method, as long as you make sure you keep the heat away from the gas tank...

Not sure about whether you need to retain the original sleeves, but when I swapped my worn ones for new, I removed the rubber centres first by using a mandrel with a sharp edge that fit just inside the bush sleeve. As I wound it in using a gerry made press, it cut through the rubber. A bit of a clean up later and the job was done. I then drilled two parallel lines of holes across the sleeve, smacked it hard with a chisel to fold it in on itself and it almost fell out.
Good luck, it's a hard job upside down with not much clearance.
