my overdrive is wacky ..please help! Long.. 700 1989

Ok.. I'm going a little crazy trying to figure out what the H$&L is going on....Well the car is disengaging from overdrive pretty harshly...It started on a relatively long road trip of 300 miles where there was no problem but on the way back it started out of nowhere....anyways , the tranny shifts fine when going up in shifts but when I get past 55-60 MPH and just let go of the gas, the thing disengages hard from overdrive , on its own, when the RPM reach about 2000...When it disengages, the arrow indicator does not go on or anything (actually the overdrive solenoid works perfectly and easily); it makes the RPM then jump up to about 3500 and slowly come down...I did have a faulty relay which was changed with a new one......I have adjusted and readjusted the downshift cable, still no change....I have changed the tranny fluid (it did need it) but still no change.......I am going to need an O2 sensor (ordered) because mine is shot and its making the engine run a bit rich but what the heck; all this came out of the blue...
Is there something I overlooked or need to look at? Has anyone else had this problem? PLEASE respond.thanks in advance.... :-0

Could you please tell me where (on the tranny?) is this overdrive switch?
I am having a similar but different problem as "wacky overdrive". My 740 will not willingly go into OD. It goes into od when it's good and ready. This can vary from 10 or 15 minutes to an hour or more of driving! (this can be awfully slow going and makes highway travel hazardous or gas guzzling expensive) When it finally does drop into OD everything works perfectly well including the OD selenoid switch for up and down shifting. All the gears shift and mesh smoothly. I too have flushed, checked the kick down cable, replaced the od selenoid 6 mths ago, replaced the harness and plug to the speed sensor (which gave me my speedo back) that went a few weeks ago... but no proper OD. I suspect that there is an electrical problem somewhere.
I've heard of a locked up control valve (torque converter?), a throttle position sensor and now an overdrive switch?

Can you or anyone direct me to the actual location of these components (or at least the od switch) so that I can check for bad connections/wires etc. ??

You may want to look at the relay.... 700 1989

the relay is located behind the ashtray....long white rectangular relay 1st one on the right hand side...it may be the solder points that are cracked; you may need to resolder

Could you please enlighten me on this "od syl."
If you are referring to the od selenoid switch, I am familiar with that but if you are referring to something else let me know what it is please and where it is located. (on the tranny?)
