Heavy trunk spoiler - any way of increasing counterweight ? 200

I happen to have an old black Eurothane wraparound spoiler lying around in my garage. It is a perfect size match for the trunklid on my 240. Unfortunately if I was to mount it onto the trunk, I would have to prop it open with a stick. It weighs quite a bit. It's from the 1980's era when the foam-rubber spoilers on hatchbacks (Mustangs, Escorts, EXPs) weighed a ton and required special gas struts to keep you from getting lumps on your head. Any ideas to increase the counterweight on the hinges. Maybe I should just forget about this idea, the 80's are over.
Ben

Heavy trunk spoiler - any way of increasing counterweight ? 200

When I installed my Volvo spoiler the kit came with two springs to help keep the trunk from closing. Just needed to drill two holes into the trunk hinges and it works perfectly. Unfortunately I don't have a pic of the interior. Does it look like this (240 factory 86- spoiler)? Pic taken at a T-bricks event.

    Best,
    Adam

I see your sig says you have the cowl covers. I've been trying to put a set on my 93 245, but can't get the little plastic sliders to engage with the tabs on the covers. Did you have a hard time with it? Any tips are much appreciated.

Oh man did I ever...nearly impossible!! One side would not clip in. I called IPD and they said they had never heard of a problem with the plastic clips. I eventually gave up and decided to use a silicone adhesive to keep the covers from flying off the car. The adhesive is flexible so it can "give" to pressures when the car is washed etc. Looks great and no mess.

I put the cowl covers from IPD on the 940, but had to make a custom tool to hook onto and pull those locking tabs into position. I think I also did some filing to smooth and improve the plastic latching "ramps".

I thought the instructions sucked too, but not IPD's fault. However, I will say I've had problems with every IPD "special/custom" product I've ever tried, going way back to the "Bright Brakes" of 1990.

That mod added a bulb on each side, for a total of 5 lights on the '86. Nice touch, but guaranteed a false Bulb Failure Warning light. A call to them got a "we thought you'd know" response. Not a big deal, but should've been noted in the catalog blurb, IMO. It did inspire me to learn how the Bulb Failure Sensor works—especially for the 3 brake lights circuit.

File that under sad but true. My experience exactly. I don't think I've ever been fully satisfied

Volvo makes HD trunk struts for use with a spoiler for the 700s, it's possible they make them for the 200s as well. Check the dealer.

I can't help you with the counterweight problem, but I probably speak for several Brickboarders when I say that I'd love to see pictures of the spoiler you might use. There's no reason to forget the idea if the spoiler looks good (and maybe you'll get going fast enough one of these days to benefit from it!).

If your car has the rounded trunk that was used in the later models, then consider yourself lucky--there aren't too many wings that fit. I've been looking and it seems my options are limited.
