240 headlight relay wiring 120-130

Anybody got a wiring diagram for installing a 240 headlight relay in a 122. IPDUSA has a tech article in their vintage catalog but my catalog is AWOL . My car has the needed wires installed in the harness. Help! I got a relay (R601 323) and no instructions.
Thanks in advance

Twombo

The simplest most accurate diagram I would use is from the Volvotips site for the full Electrical 1980 (245DL)

    Page 30 of 145 headlights.

Find your Source,Your ground, your trigger/light switch, and the correct wires for high and low beam. THERE IS A PDF FILE out there that is crisp and clean. Volvo Forum?

Use a relay to build a wire harness for the Amazon (or PV, or early 100-series) .... 120-130

      Hi Willis Faithraven2007@gmail.com,

This thread started and ended in 2004.

Volvo Tips is a resource. Yet I can't stand the ads (so we use uBlock Origin ad blocker).

The Volvo Tips site content manager converted the original Volvo factory service and technical documentation (in scanned or published directly to) PDF files is in Adobe Flash files. You need the Adobe Flash or Shockwave driver to see some Volvo Tips content in your web browser.

As you may know, most browsers no longer support, or won't allow, Adobe Flash and Shockwave files to play in FireFox, Chrome, Edge, and other browsers. The Adobe video playback software for web browsers has seemingly unending security issues.

I sometimes download the files after accessing the HTML Volvo Tips pages, use the current flash software, and view the content on my local hard drive.

      Headlight Relay

You do not need a Volvo 240 headlight relay.

You can use a relay and fuse setup meant for the current load that thrives in the under-hood (weather sealed, heat tolerant) or passenger cabin. You can then use the circuit to delivery full fused B+ power to the low and high beam headlight filaments.

Some oft mentioned resources in the modern moment ....

Mekartips for Mitchell Service and other 100 (140, 160), to 900 series wiring diagrams, and other info:
      http://www.v8volvo.se/mekartips/volvo/index.html

Want any or all years of the Volvo 164 factory 'green' service manual in PDF and other info?:

      http://www.240.se/litteratur/service100.htm

Tho now I'll never own a 164 as I'd been hoping since before the 1980s.

The Oz Volvo Technical Archive (not quite what K-Jet.org was at all)"

      https://ozvolvo.org/archive/

      And other resources ...

      Hope that helps.

31b is the toggling trigger -- momentary input only, or you'll fry it. This is the wire from the turn signal switch that's normally not connected on U.S. market cars. Find it taped up by the wiring harness above the left fender near the firewall.

15 is fused power, used only to flash the high beams with the light switch off.

    81a gets jumpered to 15.

56 is power from the headlight switch.

56a is power to the high beams (or armature power to a high beam relay).

56b is power to the low beams (or low beam relay).

      The grey wire.

      >15 is fused power, used only to flash the high beams with the light switch off.

      >81a gets jumpered to 15.

The black wire next to the grey wire. Find the other end of the black up by the fuse box and plug it into the lowest fuse, inboard side.. Re-wrap the double red.

      >56 is power from the headlight switch.

The yellow wire, once you've snaked the dipper wires out the firewall.

      >56a is power to the high beams (or armature power to a high beam relay).

Double red wires formerly on the dipper.

      >56b is power to the low beams (or low beam relay).

Grey wire formerly on the dipper.

240 headlight relay wiring (a bit off the subject... sorry) 120-130

            Hey Shayne

Yeah right!! ..."Slow & rusty". Double take...OH YEAH!

Got the 1" lowered progressive springs in front and straight rate rears installed and the Bil's too! Pretty much dialed in but the the rear Bil's are valved for a heavier vehicle. Gonna get em re-valved to reduce the high speed compression and rebound valving and it should be right on the money. Taked to Doug at Bilstein today and he has some numbers on some revalving he did some years ago appartently. So far, major improvement in handling. Doesn't feel like the Queen Mary any more.

Interior is stripped and getting it ready for paint. Bumpers are at the the chrome shop. Gonna make up a 2.5 exhaust system this weekend using mandrel bent "U"s. Lucked into one of your headers to connect to.

The engine continues to run good but the the 18 years of sitting probably wasted the valve seals. I get a puff of smoke on warm restarts after running down the the highway briskly (10-15 miles at 60-65). Engine has about 150k total so the guides should be OK. Compression is 140- 145 or so in each hole and even so it is basically pretty solid. Good buy for the money I figure!!

Decided to replace the god awful non original seats with 67 originals. Damn those are comfortable seats!!! Why some fool replaced the originals, I go no idea!

"Moon" disks are on the way...Ha Ha, kinda "retro". What is the 122 wagon record at Bonneville, eh??

Oh yeah... as to the dimmer relay... I put the relay in after work tonight and installed two extra relays to power an old set of Cibie "Z beams" I've had for 25 years and are now equipped with H-4 bulbs. I got a set of Bi-Oscars (insanity) but that have been in the closet for years and gotta go somewhere that I may install on the Yankee Bar. Definitely will need to upgrade the current puny GM alternator though!

In general, life is a little boring..LOL! Driving it to work every day now.

            Later

            Twombo
