caliper bolts not standard size 200

My '85 240 is Canadian (built for export to Canada?) Caliper bolts have off size heads - I'm guessing 18.5mm. Why me? Does it require a special socket? Do they make half size wrenches? It's not 3/4" either. Also, is it necessary to remove calipers in order to replace pads. Can I just slide them in and out?

You shouldn't have to remove the calipers when doing brake pads on your 240 (unlike most cars where you have to unbolt the caliper and swing it up). To remove the pads on your 240, first remove the small clips that hold the pad pins in, then hammer the pins out with a punch or drift. The pads will then slide out. If the pins are extremely rusted you may need to remove the caliper and cut the pins out w/ a dremel tool or similar.

Be careful when hammering the pins out that you don't put a "mushroom" on the end of them - this will make them impossible to get out and will require cutting. I'd recommend you purchase a service manual (i.e. the Bentley manual) as this will help.

I think they are 19 mm and you have no reason to remove them anyway. Maybe not everyone should do their own brakes?
