restoration saga...sound deadening success stories wanted 120-130

I know this has been discussed in the past but it seems rarely that actual products are "rated".
Looking at Fat Mat (www.fatmat.com) vs. dynamat vs. roofing material, etc.
They all claim to be the best but I want real world testimonials.
Any words of advice?

Thanks,
-Erik
p.s. photos to come of the restoration.

I've only used Dynamat in the "thick" and "thin" types (OK, 12 years ago). Made car feel like vault!

Mike!

Dynamat is good; see http://www.mcmaster.com/, page 3270, for a MUCH better price. The lead loaded stuff on page 3269 is even better, but $$$.
Look at page 3266 for a techinical discussion.

Hi All

I started a dynomat discussion recently after just having Xtreme fitted to the whole floor.

I've just come back from a 1500 mile trip to the French Alps and so have had a lot of chance to see its affects.

I would say it all depends on your needs. The work I had done has definitely improved general noise. My car is now much more pleasant to drive at speeds of 20-55 mph, since road noise has reduced and noises from below are less obvious (must get round to fixing whatever is causing these). However I must say that the car is still much too noisy at speeds above 60 mph, and this is due to road noise (from engine, carriageway, resonation) and from the old friend wind noise (which is trickier to annihilate).

My plans now are some proofing behind the headliner, some on the doors and a real investigation into the seals round the doors, windows etc.

One caveat: don't get proofing for the floor until you are sure that all your leaks are fixed. If you must, then get one that doesn't soak up water.

Cheers

Tom

WHen I did my 66 saloon a number of years ago, I went ot the local wrecking yard and found an old Cadillac. The soundproofing in these babies is better than most new materials. It was a bit thicker but after the stall with the vinyl floor mat it was not noticable. Now that the floormat is going away from detioration, I'm looking at Auto-Mat for carpet. I guess I'm going to deal with a thick cushy floor!!!

Good Luck
