Idle drops to approx. 500 rpms and almost stalls, but doesn't 200 1983

I just bought a 1983 244 turbo m46 (k-jet right?). Well when the car is not moving, and you give it some gas, not to move, just rev it up, it will rev up but when returning to idle, it drops way down to approx 500 rpms, and the oil pressure light will flash on, then the idle will return to about 1000 rpms. It will also drop down to around 500 rpms when you are driving and release the gas to slow to a stop. The car is new to me, and it needs some work(actually quite a bit of work) but I would like to fix this problem right away, along with the FRAM oil filter that is on it ARGHH!

I just solved a similar problem with my 85 245 non turbo. If you have the black plastic idle adjustment knob on the throtle body try adjusting it out a turn or two. If this solves your problem you need a good off the car throtle body cleaning, basic idle adjustment and new TB gasket. Good luck. Dan

Since it's K-Jet check for vacuum leaks anywhere and everywhere. Hoses, gaskets, and injector seals are all guilty of air leaks that give the K-Jet system a hard time. Congrats on scoring a nice Turbo. Good Luck!

    Hello,

O2 sensor, vacuum leaks, or just a basic idle mixture adjustment would be places to start looking. How's the wiring harness??? I would get rid of that orange piece of garbage on your block ASAP and replace it with a nice Volvo or Mann filter.

Your oil light comes on because the car's idle acutally dips quite low, probably to 2 to 3 hundred rpm (even though the tach reads 5) and cannot maintain sufficient oil pressure, so the idiot light flickers.

Did I say get rid of that stupid Fram filter???
