best fuel injector cleaner? 900

Any suggestions on which is the best available fuel injector (added to the gas) available at a common auto parts store?

Thanks

The best you can get at "any" supply house is Chevron Techron. The best is a Dealer Services BG product, 44K. Incidentally, I learned that Chevron has a contract with the producer of 44K and techron is just diluted 44K. It would take 4 bottles of techron to equal one bottle of 44K, making it more affordable to purchase the 44K...but hey...if you can't find 44K for $16.00...

The answer can only be the result of opinion, conjecture, rumor, advertising claims and therefore there is no correct answer. It's like asking what's better, Chevy or Ford. Perhaps the correct answer is neither car is any good at all.

My peronal opinion is that additives do no good, an anachronism left from 30 years ago when injectors really did get clogged. I have not heard of a single case where a performance problem was solved by dumping that stuff in the gas tank. In fact I never hear of clogged injectors ever being a problem at all, the additives in modern gas take care of that. Volvo recommend against adding anything to the gas.

On the brickboard I have often seen posters quessing that maybe their injectors are clogged because my car won't start but have not ever seen a poster come back and say it was a bad injector or that the spray pattern was bad. Leaky injectors are oft blamed for slow starting caused by loss of fuel line pressure after shut down, I don't think that really happens.

Spend your money on some high quality oil, some good wax or maybe even treat your tranny to a flush.

I agree with David. I think its sort of like the state of high anxiety that the repair shops like to keep people in regarding The Fear of a Broken Timing Belt (on a non-interference engine). I have heard people on the BB actually pass on a nice Volvo because they couldn't determine if the timing belt has been recently changed...

      Tks,

        Dear chrisjul,

Good p.m. and may this find you well.

IMQHO (in my quite humble opinion), if an owner has not been diligent about:

        (a) changing the oil and

        (b) changing the timing belt (even on an non-interference engine, i.e., a B230F/FD/FT, etc.)

it seems likely that said owner has not been diligent about maintenance in general.

Thus, when I learned that the previous owner of my 940 had had the timing belt changed at 54K - and that the servicing dealer could account for almost all of the oil changes - I concluded that no corners had been cut on the maintenance. That has turned out to be so.

I passed on lots of cars, because I could not get definite, factual information on these two aspects of the maintenance.

Adherence to the timing belt interval is, methinks, a good indicator of whether or not an owner is mindful of the need to do - or to get done - the maintenance.

As to your general point: that additives likely aren't needful, I tend to agree with you. Still, I have in my driveway an '85GL with 198K - with which I must sadly part company [rust] - which has always had Techron added, and which still has all of the original fuel system components.

Have a Safe and Enjoyable Memorial Day Weekend.

        Yours faithfully,

        spook

          To all

I'm a little late getting in on this, but I have had expirience where injector cleaner actually did get rid of driveability issues. The car was a Toyota mr2 with about 75,000 miles. Syptoms were rough idle and hesitation. I used a toyota brand cleaner that was about 18 buck for a little bottle. It delivered a complete elimination of those problems in one tank full.

A very reputable VW and import mechanic I used to use swore by techron.
