Anybody ever put a replacement star wheel and impulse sender in before? I need some info before I start this. '84 245 turbo.

actually, now that I think about it, it wasn't that easy because I think there is a snap ring directly under the star wheel that prevents you from knocking that pin out. I'll be honest, I actually ended up ripping my star wheel and coil to shreds and just replacing them both. Hey, it worked. The re-install method is how I described in my last message though but I'm sure you could have figured that out just by ripping the thing apart. I have an old Haynes manual('74 thru '90) which was no help because according to the drawing, the pin has to come out upward, which I firmly believe is impossible. So try the shredder method or ebay method, which is probably much cheaper. Hope I was some help.

I have a '79 wagon with a '76 distributor. I found out out it was a '76 after ordering '79 parts. Took me a while to figure it out too because all the parts look almost exactly the same. I think you might basically have the same distributor(?) Right, anyways, its not an impossible task but you have to remove a snap ring or two and you have to punch out (downward)this little pin that "presses" the star wheel into place. I got somewhat brutal in the process and ended up breaking up the wire-wound plastic pickup coil. Make sure you use some accurately placed force when punching that thing through. And punch straight, directly down. You should probably find a punch with a long point on it. I couldn't and ended up using a thin, broken allen wrench. It worked believe it or not. I did this just standing the distributor up on the table which pobably isn't the recommended method. Then, of course, you have to replace the wheel in the same manner. There are a few sites on the web that hae some good bosch parts. Just do a search for bosch electric parts. I even found a complete rebuild kit with new o-rings, snap rings, screws and that little pin. Too bad these distributor parts just don't screw together. Enjoy.

Don't even try it....look in Ebay. I just bought a used one in great condition for son's 83 245 (Bosch with orange cap) for $25.
    buena suerte,
