Internally, the 508 is 5 cyl, 8 cu inand the 709 is 7 cyl 9 cu in.
On the outside ,they have the same bolt pattern. Neither of the r134a models havecharge ports on the back plate You can get a low pressure hose with a charge port init, or if ordering fromnostalgic air parts, just do what i did and order a 709 and have them put a rear housing on it with charge ports in it( cost not much more) also tell them what kind of oil that you need in it and they willdump out the type that came in the compressor and put the correct stuff and amount in for volvo so it'sready to bolt in. They also have driers and seals that you'll need, just ask , they're extreamly helpful. these folks are used to dealing with custom installations.
Get the 709 you'll be glad that you did this is what they puton later 960s and many larger vehicles.the 709 is more effecient and actually seems to put less load on the engine while cooling extreamely well my '90 240 wagon gets downright chilly here in Arkansas with it.
