did I buy the wrong o2 sensor?... regina 700

First, thanks to all who helped me with my
exhaust system.

I bought a good looking o2 sensor from fcpgroton.
It is made by walker. On their site they said
this for the part info:

Universal 3 Wire Oxygen Sensor will fit all 85-92 models.

When they said all I thought they meant ALL. and maybe they
do, but I found and old post on the bboard about titania
and zirconia cores and something about regina being different,
which I have. I still could not determine if I bought
the correct one from that post.

Well anyways, my old o2 sensor has a black, white and red
wire. The new sensor has a white and two black wires.
If it is correct, would anyone know what wires to match up?

I have a electrical engineer in the family, and it might
be possible to convert the electrical signal if I bought the
wrong sensor, but Im not sure on what kind of output im looking
for and what the signal range is. If someone good shed some
light on the subject, that would be great.

Thanks,
Jon

I've never used a Bosch 02 sensor on a Regina car; my service manual dictates that I use ONLY the Regina 02 sensor; but in looking at both the service manual for the LH and the Regina, the resistances are the same, 3ohms at 68F, and 13ohms at over 660F.

Kinda makes sense the heater resistance runs about the same. But the sensors are different chemically and electrically. If you do this for profit, not amusement, you'll do well to keep ordering the correct sensor. We hobbyists can sometimes afford to learn the hard way.

white wire is signal, two blacks are for heater(polarity not an issue)

The Bosch uses BLACK for signal, 2 whites for heater.

The Regina also has Black for signal, but Heater Polarity IS an issue—Red for heater +, and white for heater –.

The regina cars will run with the bosch sensor, but not well.
There IS a difference between the 2 sensor types.

    I think you did.......regina 700

I noticed that same Groton listing which led to a series of postings trying to get down to the bottom of this Titania sensor thing and find out if it was true. Check out http://brickboard.com/RWD/index.htm?id=796216 and that will lead you back to more.

The bottom line is that they are different and that generic zirconia will not work properly in the Regina machines. I spoke with Groton when it all started and they told me that "we have had people buy it for the Regina cars and haven't had any problems" , "but the guys on Brickboard often know a lot more about them than we do" and "If you buy one and have a problem we will exchange it." So I would contact them and hopefully you can get your money back or exchange for the OEM one. They are probably the cheapest source for that one too. But maybe if enough people talk to them about it they will change their catalog and save people from this mistake.

Looks like this is another case where Regina is an expensive date. Please let us know how it turns out.

I spoke with Nick at FCP about 3 weeks ago, and copied him on some of the online Titania/Zirconia facts—but I guess he's not convinced.

I expect we'll hear from this poster again, as with Tom, below:

Hey guys/gals. I installed my new NTK 25002 sensor today. I was the one with the 740 that the PO previously spliced in a Bosch.

Well I can tell immediately that the idle is smoother and the car seems to run better as well.<<

Since I already bought the thing I decided to
give it a shot. I figure if it doesnt work I
can could get a refund like you have said. Its
a flaw in the part description so they should
      understand.

Well so far so good, I have driven about 15miles
with the engine light comming on. It may be
working. But I think it takes awhile for the
      computer to refresh the codes.

      Ill let you know.
      Thanks again,
      Jon

Not sure about a regina...but other models will not refresh...you have to clear the codes manually. See the FAQ's
