240 Window Scrapers 200

The exterior scrapers on my 245 are cracked and falling apart. I have found several at the salvage yard that are in excellent condition. However, I can't figure out how to remove them. Anyone here know how?

As Art said ,take a thin flat blade screwdriver or putty knife and place it under the scraper starting at the edge near the door post, not the mirror[front doors]and gently lift.It will take you all of 30 seconds to remove and just as fast to install on your car.Practice at the salvage yard.I got all 4 for my 90 240 for $4.00!The dealer will charge you about $25 for the rubber and another fortune to install it.They may want to sell you the rubber and the molding together as it will be easier for them to insatll.they will give the runaround about how difficult it is to install, charge you 1.5 hours of labor and there you go,new moulding$200.Just do it! Good luck,
    Nelson

Practice on a junkyard car that has scrapers in bad shape: Start at one end, using a large screwdriver, prying the steel channel upward from the door's pinchweld. Some trim has small tabs at either end to lock the ends around the door. Carefully release them first. Work your way from the door edge toward the hinge side, being careful not to bend the channel.

When you have it removed, you can install it directly, or more likely, exchange the rubber to your car's channel. Note there are either two or three crimps intended to keep the rubber extrusion in place. A putty knife or flat bladed screwdriver can be used to relieve the squeeze at the crimps. Pull the extrusion from the ends, don't peel it out the side.

Sounds difficult. Any idea on cost to buy new ones and have dealer replace?

Saw new ones on r-sport.org for about $50. Friend who frequents junkyards says the ones found there often break during install, it's an item he suggests to buy new. I'm looking into it for my 240 DL wagon that I'm refurbishing.

        For me, that is difficult.

Actually my writing makes things sound difficult due to its wordiness. You'll get it right the second time, and it will only take five minutes. Just practice on one that's not worth taking.

I just replaced the drivers side scraper on my 240. Art is right, it takes longer to type than to do and requires no special skills. The only tool I use was a flat-blade screw driver.

I personally replaced the whole scraper...
