Shift Lever 1989 240 M-47 200

Hello,

I recently swapped the five speed from my '89 240 with one pulled from an '88 in a junkyard. I used the shifter from the '88 because my old one was damaged upon removal.

The lever seems to be in quite a different position from the old one. For example, 2nd gear is angled much more toward the rear of the car than it used to be. It will work fine, I'm just wondering if anyone knows if they changed from 1988 to 1989.

Thanks,
Tom

Hello,

No changes from the years that you mentioned. Sometimes what can happen (as with my 87) is that the bushings wear out, and a previous owner may have pushed so hard on the gearstick that bent the shifter rods. You may now have a set of straight ones. Either way, if it feels like it will work, go for it!!!

Happy Bricking!!!
