is a low speed whine from the center support? 200

whenever my car begins to move off from a dead stop (it does this sometimes i think) it makes this whining noise. THis only occurs at movement from a dead stop. THe center support was changed 2 years ago (30k miles)???

        245L Van's day off 200

No one who's seen Ferris Bueler's day off would ever want to spin the wheels with the car up on stands. You'd surely want something better than conventional jackstands to do the job, especially given a Volvo's tendancy shift around under torque.

The B23E powered 245 (not so much my current car) I learned to drive would noticably rock on it's suspension when I revved it hard, and I would not have felt happy underneath it while it was running. I think I'd want it supported on something which was actually cemented to the ground.

Of course with a length of flex aimed used as a stethoscope there'd be no need to actually get under the car, you could could use a good 6' of the stuff and keep well back.

Typically roller bearings make a growling or rumbling sound. Try using a length of hose like a stethoscope to locate the source.

Right. So the rear axel has to be put up on jack stands or the whole car on a lift.
