NOISE IN 84 VOLVO 760 GLE FUEL TANK

I have a continuous humming sound coming from the fuel tank. Cannot seem to figure out what causes thie noise.

      Is the prepump in the tank? just new to this car. Thanks

        Yes, the pre-pump is in the tank. It supplies the main pump with fuel pressure and fuel so that it doesn't have to work so hard pulling the fuel from the tank. See if the noise only occurs when the fuel level is under half of a tank. I've noticed most people on this board have opted to just replace the sock, and the fuel line within the tank that tends to crap out, having lived it's life in gas for lo these many years. I think it's wiser to replace the pump as well, but that's just me. I have customers that will come back angry, if they come back...these guys just have to do it over.

          Thanks. I removed the cover a day age as I was trying to find out more about he noise, but cannot seem to see where the electrical connection from the pump goes (looks like somewhere in the body of the car). By the way I forgot to mention this is a V6 engine. I'll try to figure it out tomorrow....kinda cool right now.
