'93 850 A/C Evaporator Fit a '87 240? 200

I need to convert my A/C on my '87 240 wagon soon and am under the impression that the new evaporators will improve performance. Does anyone know if an evaporator from a '93 850 will do the trick for my vehicle. Thanks much,
John

Not a chance! Lines come in at a WAY totally different angle. Can't say whether or not a newer style evaporator would make any difference at all. Same amount of freon; same blower motor blowing over it...if you want to make yours colder, tweak the expansion valve down a turn or two. The finer the spray the quicker it freezes, the quicker it freezes the colder it gets.

Where is the adjustment to the expansion valve you are discussing? Do you have to open the system to do it? I am having trouble getting my pressure up on the high side. I thought it was the compressor but maybe it is in the expansion valve.

I high pressure that is too low, combined with a low pressure that is too high is generally either the compressor or a clogged expansion valve. Of course what usually clogs the expansion valve? Bits and pieces of your compressor. If you have a normal low side reading, and the low high side reading, it is possible that your heater control valve is stuck open. To "tweak" the expansion valve, you do have to open the system. You also may as well get a new one. See the alan end, tighten it two turns, now the spray will be finer, and air conditioning will get colder.

Thanks,

That is my issue I put in a new compressor and expasion valve last year. And now the high pressure is not getting high enough and the low pressure is too high. This all works out to only a cool A/C not cold like it was before the old compressor died. When the old compressor died I replace the drier, expansion valve and compressor. I also flushed the condensor, evaporator and all hoses to ensure that I did not have a bunch of crap floating around the system.

Well then I'd tweak the expansion valve (I think they are factory set for R12, thinner freon)...and I'd still double check to make sure the heater control valve isn't hanging open some.
