There is something clicking - is this normal? 700

When I run my car at lower speeds, especially in the first 10-15 minutes of operation I can hear a clicking noise when I accelerate and maintain speed in my 1988 744 TIC. It almost sounds like the exhaust of a small dirt bike, but I don't think it is an exhaust noise. I Bought the car used so I have no idea if this is normal. I never had this sound on my 91 744 NA so is it the turbo? Is it piston slap? Should I worry?

Thanks so muck,
Eamon

That year could have piston slap which goes away when then engine warms up. Your description makes the sound seem louder than slap. It could be an exhaust leak but I've never had one go away when the engine warms up. If it has to do with the turbo, I'll pass.

The sound isn't very loud, I was just thinking that it had a similar quality to the sound of a dirtbike but quieter.
