Ball Joint Brand Recommendations? 700

I had TRW's that looked, felt, and smelled exactly like the Volvo OEM ones for my 240 and they worked great. I just ordered a pair of TRW's from FCPGroton for my 765, so I will find out how good/bad they are this weekend.

TRW brand are available at www.fcpgroton.com

I don't know what NAPA charges, but strickly out of principle, they are only a last resort for me after they charged me $36 for a Mercedes air filter that was $11 online. And then $100 for a Volvo strut mount that is $47 at Groton.

I expect prices to be higher at the local NAPA (They should be making a 100% profit -- and I'm fine with that.) So they're either grossly inflating their prices, or they need to start using my online suppliers.

Just my 2 cents -- arguably worth that.

You can use your AAA card at NAPA for a discount. They say 10%, but it actually ranges from 5% to 50%, depending on the item. For example, I recently bought an $11 oil filter for an Audi that came to just over $5 after the discount.

If you know someone that buys parts for an auto shop, their discount at NAPA is much better than AAA.

Ball Joint Brand Recommendations? -Federal Mogul, Moog, and TRW. 700

Amazingly, this was just covered over on the 200 series forum.

http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/index.htm?id=758800&show_all=1

I still stand by TRW, Moog, and Federal Mogul as the best in the buisness. Federal Mogul is the parent company and owns all of Moog and the aftermarket division of TRW. Moog used to be an independent company until FM bought them. It is not uncommon to purchase a ball joint in a Moog box (with the FM logo in lower corner) containing a part stamped with the TRW logo. The M2 balljoints from Moog are great (especially for off road use and heavy duty applications), but I don't think that they're available for Volvos yet.

God bless,
Fitz Fitzgerald.

Ball Joint Brand Recommendations? -Federal Mogul, Moog, and TRW. 700

Surprizingly, I just installed a set of Moog ball joints in one of our 745 turbos over the weekend, so they are available. TRW's are also good as are the Febi (sp ?), which I see is covered by John Sargent in this post. I'm not sure what IPD used to sell, but I did install a couple of sets of those in 200's and 700's and they appeared to perform well.

Moog outer and inner tie rods ends are also available, and I just recently installed a steering rack in a 245 with all new Moog parts.

Regards, F.Gass

Quote: I just installed a set of Moog ball joints in one of our 745 turbos over the weekend, so they are available.

I'm curious, did you install regular Moog balljoints or the new Moog-M2 balljoints (heavy duty applications). I didn't think the M2s were available for 200 & 700 Volvos yet. The M2s should have the "M2" logo stamp on the base and look like the picture I've linked to their name.

FYI, the last two sets of balljoints that I ordered from FCP Groton (one for my 240 and one for the 780) came in Moog boxes, but the balljoints were stamped TRW. Even so, I'm not dissapointed. Both Moog and TRW make excellent parts and it's all under the same umbrella of Federal Mogul. Be advised, FCP Groton does carry a discount balljoint and I'd stay away from that.

God bless,
Fitz Fitzgerald.

I had trouble with the rubber boots on the Meyle brand tie rod ends going bad in less than a year. The picture shows the less than one year old tie rod ends. I'd buy Febi/Bilstein if they are available.

The only brands I have seen are "aftermarket", "TRW" and "Moog". That's pretty bad for only 1yr on them. Harsh driving where you are??

The driving conditions are moderate, as are the temperatures. There is no excuse for the deterioration of the rubber boots. I Even went to Meyle's web site (German) and left them a message. I did not get a response to my message.
