Hot air to airbox hose mystery 900

Comparing the 1997 960 with CA emmissions to the 1993 960 without CA emmissions, I first noticed that the hot air hose to the filter airbox was missing.
Not only that, but the metal underengine tube and manifold shroud is missing as well!
Has the whole package been taken off at some stage or is unneccessary in the 1997?
My local garage tells me that newer models often do not have this hot air device.
Considering the CA emissions package, I would of thought that was.
Any ideas?

Thanks,

Dan

Hot air to airbox hose mystery 900 1997

We bought a 98 S90 (960) in August of 1997 in CA and it has all the parts you listed as missing, installed on our 98 and also on our 95 960 from FL. Sounds like someone thought they were smarter than the Volvo engineers.

I had the whole hot air hose thing and i removed it. I only put it on to pass the visual imspection of the smog check then I take it right back off. Along with the flapper mechanism, it only serves to restrict intake flow.

At least as early as the 1992 model year some of the US spec four cylinders had no provision for the pre-heating stuff.
