Hi.

Problem. Brake fluid container has 2 compartments. The compartment oriented to the front of the car got empty. Any ideas as to where to trace the problem welcome as im not familiar with brake systems. 1990, 244 375,000km.

Thanks.

I believe the Front section supplies the Left Rear, and both Front Upper chambers.

If I'm wrong, then it's Right Rear and both Front Lower chambers.

In any case you've got a leak that needs to be addressed. The split braking system has already done its job by saving your life when half of the hydraulics are down. Don't push your luck. Get it fixed now. Just trace the brake line off the front half of the chamber and find the leak. It could be anywhere under the car along the hydraulic lines, but the likely sources are the connections: at the wheels themselves, the flexible lines at the wheel wells, and the junction box mounted on the rear of the driver's side front wheel well, way down in the engine compartment (it's easier to see from under the car).

Once you find the leak, if you're lucky you might just have to tighten a fitting or valve, and top off your reservoir. You might have to replace a part, especially if it's the junction box or one of the flex hoses. Actual leaks in the copper lines themselves are pretty rare, so you probably won't have to worry about that.

You'll probably want to bleed the brakes after you've corrected the problem.
