I've been thinking strongly about replacing the rear shocks on the '94 945Ti as I have recently experienced them as mushy and quick to bottom out. I'm wondering what brand (original) of shocks these are, if they are Nivomats, and if the Nivomats referred to are any good. In the last posts, I was unable to discern if anyone actually had a preference for them. I do not want something that is harsh like the Bilsteins HD as they have been described. Any preferences, or just go to oems? Thanks always!

The original factory shocks are Boge. I have some new Boge Turbo gas shocks if your are interested. email me if interested rsbrink@earthlink.net

Jay, since you are a new brick owner, let me introduce you to www.ipdusa.com. Their catalogs have loads of good information, tips, tricks, performance parts like sway bars, high priced aftermarket parts, and how to tell the difference between regular shocks and Nivomats. If you order something, you will get on their mailing list.

I don’t think ’94 wagons had them, for some reason. Nivomats maintains the rear end ride height. Great for towing or hauling. You can convert from Nivomats to regular shocks but not the other way around, at least not easily.

Actually, on wagons, it's easy to convert in either direction, with the correct springs.
I converted FROM 'cause I was in a hurry and the old ones were shot, then I converted TO, 'cause I liked the self-leveling when towing.
FCP Groton had a REALLY GOOD price.

Don't you need the air compressor and associated electronics to make the Nevomats work? If so, that makes the install much more complicated, right?

Not sure how the mechanics of the Nivomats work. There are undoubtedly someone here that can explain it, but these are self-leveling, so no compressor is necessary.

Nivomats are great, the (only rational) gripe is they are expensive to replace every 10-15 years or so. I have them on the 780 with Bilstein struts. Great handling smooth ride.

Well if you want to stay with the nivomats and replace themI called the dealership here in PA and they said it would be somehtign like 650 bucks for them as opposed to the old 800 price so its stillexpensive but well worth it.

FCP Groton has them for about $250 each.
