What the heck is that? 900 1991

In between torturing myself trying to get the tank pump back in, I decided to change my radiator that I had been putting off. That was pretty easy, and I was staring at the engine, trying to get it to tell me what was wrong with it, when I noticed this thing on the fuel rail. It's about 2 1/2 inches round, 3/4 inch thick, with two unions. Looked in my documentation and don't see it anywhere, and of course I have a B234 engine so I really don't know. I could bypass it, and I'm going to tomorrow, but anyone know what it is? Did get the pump back in, but have to go get new clamps. I quit for the day- back at it tomorrow. Thanks again for the help.

Congratulations on the pump! That's got to feel good. How did you get it in? Did you try the string thing? Sorry I can't help you on this question, out of my area of knowledge.

No, didn't do the string thing- was going to try 1 more time before doing it. Did take the gasket off the pump and put in in the tank 1st. That was a good move.

could be the fuel pressure regulator
could be a pulsation dampener
dunno about the 234 injection system

Never heard of a pulsation dampner- this thing sits above the fuel rail, and is in line between the main fuel pump/filter and the fuel rail, with the control pressure regulator on the other end of the fuel rail.
