HIGH NO reading on new CALIF smog test-HELP! 700 1988

HI the new smog test in CALIF includes a rear wheel load test @2500rpm testing NO readings.My car flunked that portion of test at double the normal 750 reading. AT 130k I have replaced my catalytic convertor,before I have it tested again @55-80 $$$$$.Anything else need replacing? Car is tuned and i've cleaned flame trap,new plugs tomorrow a.m.-WHAT ELSE CAN I DO?thanks mark

    Check the airbox, thermostatically controlled flap, that controls fresh air intake.If this flap is stuck you will constantly be pulling heated air off the exhaust manifold and risk frying your AMM. This fix would would help lower combustion temperature and reduce NOX. Since I don't live in snow country I wired this flap open, but FCPgroton sells this part at their site.

    Yes, a lean mixture caused by vacuum leaks will cause high NO. A lean mixture can also be caused by a faulty air mass meter. Had to put a rebuilt on my car for $150.
    Make sure you go to a station that offers free retest in case of failure.
    Give the car an "Italian tune-up" before the test. In other words: drive the heck out of it , preferably on a long incline to put a good load on the engine at high RPM.( w/o blowing it up)

    Look for vacuum leaks, like injector seals.

    Note my correct spelling of vacuum, not vacume or some such BS.

      Check an English dictionary, my provincial friend :} Poor spelling could be an affectation, and not just natural ignorance. I wonder if I exhibit both.
