A/C comressor compatability? 200 1983

I have an 83 244 with the B23F,old style compressor. I'm changing to a B230f. Will I have trouble trying to mount the compressor? What about the crank pulley? Will I have to upgrade to the new smaller compressor to match up with the pulley? TIA, Mark

    Hi!

I just went the other way, installing a rotary compressor in place of the old York on my 83 turbo/b21ft. Everything lined up fine . . . .

I'm assuming that if I can go to a rotary on the b21, you can go to the York on the b230--but you will have to transfer over the york's red mounting plate (between the compressor and the engine block). It may also require the xfer of a couple of studs, instead of the bolts used on the 230.

I think even the belts from the old engine will work on the newer one.

    Good Luck,

    Steve Anderson

Check the horizontal distance out from the block to the a/c belt on both engines. I think the B23 belt is closer than on the B230F. If so, even if the York was mounted on the B230F, the belt would not line up properly with the crank drive pulley.

    Good Luck,

    Bob
