Air Injection - Hole Thread? 200

I'm trying to remove the air injection system from my '76 242. The holes under each of the exhaust ports on the head are threaded, but I can't figure out what the thread is. It seems similar to 1/4" NPT, but not quite. Doesn't seem to match any SAE or metric bolt thread either. Any ideas?

Thanks-
Eric

I did the same a few years ago, and believe they were plain old 8x1.25mm like the manifold studs, etc.

Sorry, I now think there was more to it, but don't recall the details (it was '96 when I plugged those holes). Is there just one tapped hole per port? If you describe how the pipe/tube connection is configured, maybe I'll remember something.

It's a large plug - maybe 3/8" diameter - that is hollowed out. There is a hole drilled across it between the head and the threads. The air comes from a hollow ring that surrounds the plug in this area below the head. Hard to explain, but perhaps that will jog your memory.

        Thanks!

It doesn't help my memory, but sounds like a "Banjo Fitting". I checked some on hand, and the Banjo Bolt nearest to .375" is about .390 and has a 10 x 1.00mm thread.

A 7/16 x 20 nut will slip over this bolt (replacing the "Banjo"), leaving about 1/4" of bolt thread to screw back in where it came from and make a seal. A thinner nut between 2 crush washers would make it more gas-tight. Am I close?

That sounds right. I've heard mention of banjo fittings in the past, but never knew what it was exactly. Makes perfect sense.

So, is there a plug I could get with a 10mm x 1.00 thread to just pulg the hole up?

The idea of replacing the banjo with a nut is a good one. I'll do that for now....

            Thanks again-

You may find some in places like Ace, True Value, or NAPA, Parts Plus etc. Any place with a Metric Fastener assortment (although the 1.00mm is a "fine" thread, i.e. less common). Hopefully you'll find a bolt you can shorten if necessary. Let me know if you strike out.
