Muffler and headlights 700 1989

The hanger bracket on my rear muffler has rusted and it then ate into the muffler and now my brick sounds like a souped up roadster. I need to R/R the muffler, bracket and the U-clamps that hold it on front/back, how difficult? Is it easier just to take it to my mechanic? It may be under warrenty from last time replaced but I am suspicious. Any advice appreciated. Okay, if you don't want to hear my headlight woes then stop reading.... I still have no lowbeams at regular running. The lowbeams come on when I select high beams, as does the left highbeam but the right highbeam is out(new headlight). I have replaced the bulb failure relay, bulbs (4-2 low/2high), sanded most every connection, you name it I did it. Only one spot I did not get to, the ground on the left lowbeam. Can this affect the right low/highbeam? Read above and you'll notice that only the rght. high does not come on when highs selected. I will try working on this connection but I am not optamistic. Anybody want to take a shot in the dark? Thanks for any help, it is always appreciated.

Rear muffle is a pain in the a** to remove because of the rust and corrosion that you already see. If you don't have a lift, you're going to hate trying to tackle that job because you will be banging away at the thing for a long time. Usually, the hardest part of the job is the removal of the rear muffler from the axle pipe that goes from your front muffler over the axle. I was unable to remove it and ended up bringing it to my mechanic who was nice enough to cut the thing off carefully (didn't damage the axle pipe at all!) for $5.

If you really want to try this anyway, get lots of PBlaster and be prepared to get really dirty from the rust breaking off on top of you. You'll probably want goggles and a facemask or something. :)

Muffler and headlights - Bad wires? 700 1989

If you cannot find a bad ground, here's my story -

'88 745 GLE - right high beam would not work. New headlight was to no avail. I even measured 12v on the proper connectors!

I purchased a new aftermarket connector and soldered it in - at the time, I noticed that the individual strands of the wire in the harness were tarnished black. New connector did not work!

I went to the junk yard for another part and purchased the connector and wires as far back as I could cut them - about 4 feet.

New wires solved the problem!
