1996 960 SC-815 radio code 900 1996

I have tried numerous times to reset the radio using my 4 digit code after I disconnected the battery. I have used (or thought I did) the steps outlined in the owners manual with no luck. Can anyone give me the exact steps they used to enter the radio code and get the unit working again? Thanks.

If the display says "codE" or "rpt" then you can enter the code- it's just 4 digits entered by the preset buttons. The radio magically comes to life once the 4th digit is entered- you don't have to do anything.
If it says "OFF" then you have to leave the ignition key on in position 1 (or take a long drive, that works too) with the radio power on. The reset process takes 2-4 hours. Then it will accept the code again.
If the radio has ever been changed, the original code for the car (according to the cards in the glovebox, or the VADIS system at the dealer) will bwe wrong. You will need to pull out the radio, which is VERY easy, and get the model number and serial number off the top of it. Go to the dealer service dept and they can look up the code for that radio. You may need to provide some kind of proof of ownership, i.e. registration or something.
    Good luck!

Turn the key on for 2 hours and enter the code when code appears on the radio face. By on I mean the key position before run.
