Still no spark 900 1994

I am reposting for my husband as his other message was farther down. ANY assistance would be greatly appreciated. Does anyone have any other idea what could cause it to not run?

Here is a recap of what has been happened and what has been checked/replaced...

"I was experiencing intermittant 'stumbling' and an occasional complete engine stop. A few minutes on the side of the road and it would run fine. The tach would drop to zero when this happened. I did a full ABS stop and the car died and will not restart."

--I have replaced the RPM sensor.
--Checked all the fuses, sprayed every electrical connector I can find under the hood with electronic cleaner.
--I pulled all the relays out of the tray and inspected the PC boards and all were pristine.
--The relay near the ABS computer (radio supp.?) opens and closes with key on/off.
--Just before it died, I replaced the distributor cap and rotor and changed the oil.
--The ground strap at the motor mount on the drivers side is in tact, but the passengers side is broken. I used some heavy wire to connect between top bolt of mount and the lower bolt. Still no start.
--7/21/03 Replaced the ignition control module with the Bosch part, per prior posting, still no spark.
--Coil? The local auto parts chain 'tested' it and their readings showed intermittant 'oks'. He wanted to sell me one, but their machinery and technicians were also in question.

HELP!

Thanks again

Mark's Wife ;-)

"Just before it died, I replaced the distributor cap and rotor." I have had a car completely die on me due to a crack in an almost new distributor cap. Dist cap cracks are often invisible. Try with the old cap and rotor.

Have you read the OBD codes? The '94 has more extensive diagnostics than earlier models (2 readout blocks). See the FAQ's for details.

one test i've done in the past is using starting fluid,if it starts and then dies after burning the spray that tells you that your getting spark and then start trouble shooting fuel.only a suggestion.

This clearly sounds as though your ignition is failing, especially if the tach drops to zero before the engine quits and if it shows no activity while cranking. If you've replaced the power stage amplifier, then the coil should be tested next. See the Electrical-Ignition section of the FAQ for coil test procedures. I suspect though that, if the wiring harnesses are fine, your ignition control module may have died. If so, buy a used unit from a wrecking yard. Good sources are in the FAQ. Keep us posted.

I had to replace the ignition control module on my last 945T. It was only about $50 from FCP Groton. I felt it was a better bet than taking my chances on a used one. If it was $150, then it might be a different story.

      Just a thought.
