oil/trans fluid reccomendations 700

1988 740 GLE B230F

119.000 on it now.

I tend to do quite a bit of HARD city driving followed by numerous 4-5 hour high speed (70-85 mph) jaunts on the interstate. 10-30 dino oil just looks nasty after a day (nothing wrong with the engine)

What type of oil (preferably synthetic off-the-shelf) would the experienced volvo owner recommend??

Also, what type of trans fluid???

Chris

AMSOIL is a suckers choice! Think AMWAY 700

Amsoil is a joke. Just a big pyramid scheme.

I'm no expert, but I tend to think that regular oil and filter changes are more important than the type of oil you use. Sure synthetic lasts longer and IS better but contaminants such as fuel, moisture and dirt are still there. Plus switching to synthetic in an older engine that has used regular oil in the past can clean up engine deposits that were helping keep gaskets sealed and cause leaking. Change the oil and filter with a decent dino oil every 3k and I would guess that the engine will out-last the rest of the car. HTH

Amsoil is the best, not the cheapest, can even mailorder to your front door. 700

go to amsoil.com and read the specs and independent tests.

Yes, Mobil1 is good stuff and widely available. It's just not theÊbest.

And my personal opinion is Castrol synthetic is among the worst synthetics out there. Still better than dino oil, but be careful.

Again, read the specifications and test results.

Most people would say mobil one synthetic is a great off the shelf choice. Mobil one also makes a synthtic ATF and a sythetic differential fluid if you're interested. you should be able to get them at Autozone.
