www.KgTrimning.com shows several nice performance parts for B30's in their catalog.

-Cams in several degrees of heat
-Modified heads in several degrees of heat
-manifolds for triple Weber DCOE's
-head gaskets for 92 MM pistons (3.3 liter overbore)

Their website doesn't show 1/4 of the parts they have, but send emails to the webmaster and they can correspond very well in English. I've had nothing but good luck in dealing with them so far (PV Bilsteins, 92MM B20 head gaskets, various other parts)

I didn't think any 164s had 3-speed. It isn't mentioned in any of the manuals
I have. (unless it is automatic) Are you sure it isn't 4-speed?
Like Matt said, FI would give you some more power.
I have a FI head on mine and an IPD street performance cam (sorry, no longer
available but if you have a good core, Isky can grind you one under their
number VV71) and am using a pair of HIF6 carbs. Runs pretty good, and a LOT
easier (and cheaper) than installing FI on a car that didn't come with it.

For FI you gotta change gas tank, cylinder head, fuel pump, gas lines plus you
gotta get the whole FI system and hook up a LOT of wiring. Like Matt says,
it would be easier to start with a car that already had FI or maybe transplant
ALL the stuff out of a donor car but it would be a lot of stuff.

If your tranny is 4 speed you could convert it to floor shift pretty easy.

There are also 4 speed + overdrive trannies available now and then.
They are called M410. Be sure and get one off a 164 because they were also
used on a few P1800s and those had a bellhousing with a smaller bolt circle
that won't work on a 6 cylinder engine.

I was under the assumption that its a 3 speed auto... Volvo never used a column mounted manual shifter, did they???

Actually, I do sorta remember a single bench seat option (not for US market) for something...don't remember which model though.. But even there, the wobble stick would work.

My parts microfiches do show a column shift linkage and tranny top, but I
am pretty sure it is for the M40. Not sure what years it actually hit the
streets or where.

The very first improvement would definitely be the 4 speed manual transmission conversion. Injection would probably help a little....

Where are you located? I have in my grubby little hands right now a complete '72 164 with both fuel injection, and a 4speed with OD. Everything you need and its fairly cheap. But... not if you are too far away. I'm a little ways north of Denver in Colorado.

Mine was originally an automatic, but has been converted a 4 speed with OD... and the transmission is fairly quiet compared to most...

I'm sure it would make the trip to the Seattle area if you wanted to drive it...It actually runs and drives pretty well. If interested, drop me an email and I can giveyou furthur details... matt@metricsucks.com
