Front Brakes on 765T with 165K 700 1990

Folks,

Here comes the time that the brakes need to be redone. I noticed many of you had good experience with aftermarket products. I'm interested in Power Disk rotors( IPD) and stock (dealer) pads. Last year I installed ATE rotors and Pagid pads. While they worked fine for the price the pads worn out in about 25K miles. Rotors don't look to bad: slight groving and brake pulsation. I went to the dealer today and got the pads hoping I can get away just with them , but I have second thoughts about leaving old rotors in service. My local Volvo rep tells me that I should get Volvo rotors as they would last 4 sets of pads before before needing replacement. ( Volvo engineering) Could that be true? These rotors are expensive $ 120 each.I have a feeling that they will fail with the first set of pads just like the ATE. On the other hand idea of groved disk looks apealing and is 35% less cash up front.. Any thoughts? Please comment...

Thank you in advace

    Front Brakes on 765T with 165K 700 1990

I just did the front brakes myself recently. I upgraded them from 10.50" to 11.25" diameter discs as well, which required replacement of the caliper bounting brackets. Same calipers were used.

I put in 11.25" ATE Powerdisc rotors that I got for about $50 a piece. Also got Mintex brake pads. Haven't put that many miles on things yet, but the braking is markedly improved from what I had before. It is very consistent and smooth all the way down, and no sudden locking up like it did before when things got very heated.

I can't tell you how long these will last though, as I just did these about 2-3 weeks ago. But so far I am happy with the results.

edit: Oh yeah, make sure the lugs are torqued properly. FAQ covers it. :)

OEM rotors are good, and so are some aftermarket rotors. Are your current rotors warped due to overtorque of the lug nuts? The 7/900's are sensitive to lug nut torque. My 2 cents on the grooved discs is that they are aftermarket discs with grooves machined in them, save your money unless your going racing.

LUgs are Ok, Always torque with the Torq wrench.I dont think that rotors are warped. Brake action is smooth. I was wondering how OEM pads will work with ATE rotors? I gues I will splap them on for now.

Thank you for the time and effort to respond
