Bad news!!!... Rear-end screwed? 140-160 1968

Okay, on Friday I had two other "adults" in my car and was going fast and shifting hard. When I shifted hard one from either 1-2 or 2-3rd I heard a loud crunching(?) sound coming from the rear end. Didn't know what it was and didn't have time to do anything about it as I was on my way trying to catch up to my buds farther up on the highway. Anyway, ever since then, when there is no "load" on the rear-end I hear noise coming from the rear. It has gotten worse and every once in a while it is really loud and scary sounding. So today I jacked up the rear of the car and was runing it through the gears in the air. It always was making a slight sound, but on release of the gas pedal or putting it into neutral the diff. casing and end of the driveshaft would vibrate and shake up and down and make more sound... This is not good. What can I do, should I have my shop look at it? That'll cost money so If i can find out what it is without their help it would be nice...
Thanks,
Kyle
