best source for vacuum hoses and such 200

spring project- replace all hoses in the engine compartment. I recently purchased an 84 diesel. While preemptvily degreasing (by hand) the engine compartment in anticipation of some as yet unforseen repair, I noticed some fraying here and there on assorted cables and hoses.

Best source for this stuff, any warnings?

Thanks

Between your corner parts store and speed shop you should be able to buy all the hose you need. I did this on the 245Ti 5 years ago and all is still well.

On the small hoses instead of metal hose clamps I use high quality plastic wire tie wraps - some of the small hoses never had clamps originally - and on turbos can pop under boost. The tie wraps work great, and don't damage the hoes.

I would say that your "corner parts store" would be the way to go. I bought 6' each of 1/8", 7/16", and 1/4" for around $6 and did all of the lines on mine while I had the intake manifold off. The 1/4" went down to the charcoal canister, don't know if diesels have one of them or not...

    Have fun,

Your suspicions are correct, there's no charcoal canisters on the Diesels. The vent tube from the fuel tank goes to a roll-over valve and then terminates in an open hose.

-Somebody just inquired about this 2 weeks ago. He had converted a Diesel to a gas motor and was wondering why he was smelling fuel all the time.

The only one I can think of that fits that description is Mr. Trexler on the SwedishBricks list... It was very entertaining reading following his progress and pitfalls during the conversion project.

I like the original Volvo hoses as they seem to last a looong time. I usually buy in bulk from the dealer. The main ones I get are the vacuum lines, especially on the gas models.

You also get to re-use your Corbin spring clamps by buying OEM hoses. The aftermarket ones are thicker and the clamps have to be replaced.

Baker Precision is a great source for silicone hose. It's expensive but will outlast your car.

IPD sells a vacuum hose kit with braided cloth covered hose. The stuff is supposed to be tough but the cloth covering makes it hard to detect cracks.

I usually just buy the rubber hose locally. Last saturday I bought enough to renew all the vacuum lines in my 240 for less than ten dollars.

      Don,

Do you use english or metric hose? I have been trying to source metric vacuum hose but have been unsuccessful. If standard, what size, and should all be rated for fuel?

The corner parts store stocks english, 1/8, 7/16 and 1/4. It works just fine. It is rated for fuel, at least, that is what's printed on the hose.
