jackstand positioning 200 1983

Greetings,

Have had a few 140s and 240s over the decades, you'd think I'd know the right answer by now. But there's an old saying, something to the effect of: "the more you know, the less you know"....

Where IS smartest/safest/least invasive location to position jackstands, both front and rear? I have two solid ones at the moment and will soon be in a "loaner" garage where there are two more so I could theoretically get the whole car up in the air, semi-pro. style. Some long overdue work, so much easier w/beast elevated.

My concern is really up at the front--knowing that these are unibody cars (plus were talking 'bout a wagon/estate here), I am realizing there may be better spots than I've used in the past.

If you could see the rusty "frame rails" that are starting to weaken on my mate's '91 Toyota, you'd understand my concern.

Want to avoid investing in ramps, may be sensible/useful but they're heavy and just take up more space in the attic (my "shop").

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Cheers,

Frank

I have no perfect answer, because if the "normal" jackstand points are that rusty - well maybe time to give up the ghost.

However - In the front I jack in the center of the cross-member and place the stands on the "normal" jack points. They fit perfectly.

Rear-jack the pumpkin, stands at the normal jack points.

My guess would be in the normal points are rusty - front on the cross member near the control arm attach point, rear at a strong attachment point....(shock, torque rod, etc) - normal safety disclaimer applies.

      ¡gracias señor! 200 1983

Thanks Paul for simple answers to not such a simple question!

The '83 245 is not originally from the rustbelt, 15 yrs in mild CA weather so I want to do things right. Could be last car I ever own....

That '91 Toyota will soon get sold as an '81 244GL, also not from the rustbelt, is sensible and safe replacement.

Beautiful metallic green, reminds one of "british racing green" of a long-lost but not forgotten 74 142.

Girls are beautiful and deserve safe transportation. Thanks for all the help you've given to Brickheads everywhere.

      Santé,

      Frank R.
