240 AC in a 73 145 140-160

My girlfriends 1980 240 is on its death bed. The AC in it still works and I am wondering if its possible to retrofit it into my 145.

Pulling the heater/aircon unit out of a 240 is a major job, i think they build the car around it, presumably fitting one in a 145 would also be a major undertaking.

240 AC in a 73 145 140-160

'73 was the changeover year in the interior center stack to what essentially stuck around for the next 20 years in the 240-series. So installation wise, the fan/evap/etc. in the interior should work out fine.

Stock under hood, the AC compressor mounted right next to the #1 spark plug, making tune-ups less than fun. Any which way, you will need new brackets/mounts/etc. ... and if you're going to go to the trouble getting that fabricated, you may as well consider putting in a more modern rotary AC compressor. Those piston-driven York's really suck up the power.

As for the condenser ... you'll prolly figure out a way to get it mounted in the empty space in the front.

-- Kane ... no AC in the '74, and prolly won't ever bother retrofitting one in.

No prob. SoCal summers can be just as bad ...

I suppose that's why I avoided driving the 245 for some time ... dead blower motor means that I don't even get any airflow - cool or not.

-- Kane ... not that I fixed it yet, still. :)

And upgrade to r-134? 140-160

I'm wondering about upgrading to r-134 when I put in a system. Can I use my riginal compressor, or does it need a rebuild with new seals. Can I do it myself?

Other than that, I think it would depend simply on mount and pulley alignment.
Hose fittings are pretty standard in auto-ac.
