Help with 1991 240 Flame Trap - Where is it located exactly? 200 1991

My newest brick is a 1988 244GL, but I would think Volvo left the flame trap location as is.

Find the big corrugated air hose the brings air from the AMM to the throttle body. Near the throttle body end of that hose there are two smaller hoses hooked on to the big hose.

The smaller hose towards the front of the engine goes to the Idle Air Control. The other one goes to the Flame Trap holder.

Just follow that hose. The end is flared out and covers over the flame trap assembly. Just lift it off, carefully. The trap holder, a plastic piece, is connected to a small "S" shaped hose below it, which connects to the oil separator box. Try to not unhook that hose from the box. It is a PITA to reattach.

If the PCV system is in dire need of cleaning - like not done in 50K miles, then take that "S" hose off and clean it or replace it along with everything else.

Hope this helps.

Bob

The flametrap box is located underneath the intake manifold. If you remove the throttle plate it would be alot easier to access. The trick to removing the box is to get it out from behiind the wiring harness.

On my 1990 it is near the rear between the arms of the intake. Check the IPD website for a picture.
