Headlight trim retaining tabs 700 1989

What is the trick to getting the bottom tabs on the dual sealed beam headlight trim to lock into their retainers?

Driver's side if locked in, but I can't figure out how to engage the bottom tabs on the passenger side into their plastic "hooks".

I can rotate these hooks, but they do not seem to bend forward enough to slip the trim tabs over.

While I can appreciate Volvo's desire to lock in the bottom of these light surrounds, I can't say I undderstand their thinking with this set up.

How do you take out this trim later?

are you talking about the painted plastic trim that goes under the lights. or are you talking about the early style witha chrome bezel around the entire light assembly?

Not sure what you mean.

These have dual rectangular sealed beam lamps, similar to the pre-1986 240's. These are not the plastic capsule with the single bulb inserted through the back.

The bezel is a chrome paint, though. One mounting tab on top, two below. Held in on top with a "clothespin" like plastic wedge. Mounting hooks for the two bottom tabs are somehow pressed into the frame-like light surrounds behind the lamps buckets.

ok, when you insert it you have to tilt it gentlyso the bottom fits over the retaing tabs on the bottom first, and then push it throuhg the openings on the top. you can tell if you have it engaged by gently pulling on the bottom. put the top plastic retaining springs in last.its always a little tricky to get the bottoms engaged, youll have to play around a little but it should work unless they are broken and then youll need to replace.
