BROKEN BRAKE LINES FITTINGS 700 1990

In spite of three days of BP Blaster and a good set of Flare Wrenches, I managed to strip the flare nuts while trying to replace rear brake hoses on my '90 745. What are my options beside taking it to the dealer? Can I cut the flare nuts or the tubing and reflare ? Is the nut available alone? My friendly dealer will no doubt refuse to reflare and require replacement of the whole section of brake line back to the axle. I heard that this is not a typical flare job, what kind of kit do I need?

Try heating the fitting with a propane torch. Then use vice grips.

have tried torch, vicegrips, plumber's wrench. If I force any harder, the tubing will snap off ofb of the flare nut, then the car will not even be driveable to the Volvo Hospital. Will the next nearest hardline fitting junction under the axle be any better?
thanks for all your kind replies.

I know FCP Groton sells made-up brake lines of various lengths. The flare is indeed one that's hard to reproduce- it's a double flare, and of course it's a metric size.
I'm sure other parts stores must carry the steel lines that you can bend to suit. As noted, any junkyard may have a suitable car, if you can get the lines out! Try visegrips?

Are you sure about the flare fittings being metric? The fitting takes an 11mm or 7/16" tubing wrench. Eleven millimeter is not a standard metric hex size.

The OD is held to the transmission by eight 11mm nuts, or so we are told. The threaded studs which the nuts go on to measure 1/4"-28, so I believe those nuts are actually 7/16".

Could it be the same with the brake line fittings?

Hmm could be John. I have just been assuming they were metric, but you're definitely right, 11mm is awfully close to 7/16 isn't it?
The flare design is the "double flare" which I was told years ago was only used on European cars, and was a metric size. However, now that everybody sources parts from everywhere, that's probably not true- everyone including Volvo is probably using whatever's cheapest.
So the answer is that I don't really know, but a parts store still should have the correct lines, and the junkyard ones will definitely fit if you can successfully get them out!

do you have a volvo wrecking yard near you, you can probably pick them up there for a better price and they will already be bent to fit the body. if you buy straight brake lines you can get them pretty inexpensive but you must be careful when you bend them.
