If you look at the big fuel line you will see a pressure tap, it looks like a shrader valve. Take the cover off the valve and using a fuel pressure guage you can determine the fuel pressure from the in-tank fuel pump. I cant't remember the fuel pump pressure I believe it is supposed to be; 12 to 18 psi.. if that is fine, then on the fuel rail, next to the firewall there should be another fuel tap. Pressure should be around 43 to 48 psi to check the regulator just pull the vacuum hose off and it should jump to 56 or close. These numbers if I remember correctly were for a b230ft, the 16 valve head runs little diferent fuel pressure. Advance auto parts has a pretty good fuel pressure checker for not a whole lot of money if you plan on doing the checks yourself. I would also check to make sure that the fuel pump is suspended properly, otherwise that could also lead to high fuel pump noise. Good luck. Paulie. Just retired my 1987 740 gle with 326,789. Selling 1989 740 turbo wagon and my 90 760 turbo, because I love the power my 92 960 has, and it is only 101,893 miles young.
