Hello Fellow Northern Brickters,
Does anyone know of a good pick and pull in the Toronto region other than Hamilton's Corner Garage??? I hate having to get myself filthy everytime I drive up to Ottawa to visit my favourite one up there...

I'm in Brampton and basically would like access to any pick and pulls in the area. My impression is that because of insurance and lawsuits, wreckers aren't supposed to let you wander around their yards. I visited 401 wreckers a long while back, but they're gone.
Now I look for Volvo's whose owners may be scrapping them soon. Scarborough seems to have a lot of Volvos, so perhaps wreckers in the area would have a few.
Btw, last year in the "Buy And Sell" there was an ad from a wreckers, I think in Markham, advertising an all you can carry day for $40. I think it was scheduled for June. They may do it again this year.
If you know of any places, post here as well as the "Canadian Volvo Exchange" (very slow board).

Hey,
East end Toronto seems to be a mecca for older used Volvo's. That's where I picked up the '82 242 for 200 bucks last fall from the mechanic of the old man who owned the car. If I had it my way I would start my own little collection, but the 1/4 acre up in Brampton wouldn't cut it. Lord knows I took enough of it when I showed up with that car in tow.
Really what I should do is grab a list the next time I go up to Ottawa from the local guys here and go shopping so to speak. Woohoo... maybe open my very own EBay store....
Now that's a thought...

Great advice, and reasonable prices for new/used parts contact Swedon Motors in Hamilton, 905-547-4400. They are not a wreckers but have been very helpful in the past.
Also try Stephane at www.volvoworld.com. He is in Montreal but has used parts.
I stopped wasting time going to Hamilton's in Guelph many moons ago; Dealer prices (new parts) and advice were always better.
Good luck

I live in Kitchener/Waterloo, but as of yet I haven't found anything that great except for Hamilton's, and they charge so darn much for everything. My theory is that Hamilton's is the black hole for wrecked volvo's in this area--it just sucks them all in. I spent an entire day once driving around the kitchener/waterloo area to try and find a place that has volvos.....a coulple had one or two in really poor condition and that was about it. Hopefully someone else knows of a place....they probably won't tell us about it though so all the good stuff doesn't dissappear :)

Even my good buds over at MacMillan and Sauders have commented on how Hamilton's will clean your clock for a bit part. Hell they wanted 3000 for a rusted out, oil-burning 244 TiA and 600 bucks for a non-running, bondoed-over 242 GLT with close to 500,000 km on it. I wonder if they were a little more reasonable they would do more business??? The spoils of being almost like a institution I guess....

Hey,
2 spots up there worth going to. Europarts over in Aylmer is okay, but the cars in the pick and pull section are usually pretty stripped of the good stuff by the time they make it there. They are good for whole cars that have been accidented. The real jewel is G&L Wreckers out on the far end of Navan Rd. They tend to have some and then none, give them a call before you go. Last time I was in there in the fall, they had a 244 Ti-A, 744 Ti-M, plus a plethora of DL's and GL's of varying age.
Some people you should meet(if you haven't already) are Simon and/or Ante Vrjankovic at Adria Auto Center on Bank St at Kilborn. They have 3 fully trained Volvo techs (2 of which are old school), you'll pay up for stuff there, but in the 15 years my family has been bringing cars there, they have always come out fixed and they stand behind their work.
Happy Bricking!!!
Richard.

I checked the phone book for Europarts, and directory information, but I can't find a number for them. Could you list the numbers of Europarts and G&L?.
I agree that Hamilton's is grossly overpriced, with lousy service. They seem to specialize in monosyllabic answers, and offer little unless pressed. The prices I have received are so close to the cost of new, I usually hang up in disgust. Not sure what planet they live on, but they are in serious denial that they can expect to stay in business with this approach.
Here are a few I have in my files, most in Canada Allvo volvo wrecker 1-604-434-0767, Alpi's Wreckers Vancouver 1-877-661-2260, Corey Wreckers London 455-9040; Luxury European Wreckers 1-800-369-3424 1-416-656-1836; Mann Wreckers Cambridge 1-800-263-0344; Volvo Recycle Mart Windsor 1-519-945-1057; Ron Powell
Used Volvo Parts 164 St. Vincent St. Meaford, Ontario (519) 538-3056. It is the same hit and miss.
