Timing Belt 900 1996

Coming on the 140,000 belt change, should I replace the cams and crank seals??
At what mileage they leak?
I'm plannig on replacing the tensioner, tensioner pulley, idler pulley, water pump and belt.
Thanks

If you have not changed anything yet I would at least change the tensioner,if your timming belt shows rubbing on the inside timing cogs I would also change the pulleys, tensioner and idler. If you have not changed the water pump now is probebly a good time. There is no such thing as changing to much, but with any 960 maintenance is not enough. Your driving habits have a lot to do with maintenance. Please don't go by owners manuel and think that everything is OK. Always check the condition of items that need servicing. When changing cam seals always make referencen points to where the cam gear is to the camshaft. Other wise it is hard to get to the factory settings. In that year Volvo reduced the power of the engine and reduced the displacement to 2.9 L. Horse power also went down to 183-7 depending on what part of the country your from. there is no such thing as to much maintenance in a 960!

Absolutely, change out the seals, if they have not been replaced before. At 140k, if they are original, you are on borrowed time. I change my seals every 100k. The one time I didn't, on the wife's car natch, they started leaking within 10k mi. and I had to go through the R&R process all over again just for the seals. Waste of time. If you know they were changed at 100k, IMHO, they are probably good 'til 200k.

I replaced the belt, tensioner and water pump on my s90 (97) not too long ago. I didnt find any slop in the tensioner pulley or idler pulley but did find some in the water pump. This car was at 146K miles so take that for what it is worth.

As for the cams and crank seals, if they arent leaking, let em be.

I strongly recommend not touching the crank seal unless you have a leak there presently. Belt and Tensioner replacement is a very good idea though........well worth the expense for the added security............just my two cents worth.
