Adjusting rear brake light switch 200 1981

My rear brakes lights stay on when car is off and key out of ignition. If i pull up on the pedal they will go out so it looks like the barke switch needs to be adjusted so it is closer to the pedal arm. But, I can't figure out how the brake switch is supposed to be adjusted. Haynes mentions screws that hold the bracket is supposed to slide on but as far as I can tell the bracket is welded in place. Thanks for any help. Adam.
