What Spark Plugs are best for '90 740 Turbo? 700

Hi,

Looked through the FAQ, but couldn't find a recommended brand or model of spark plug. I have a 1990 745T, 116k miles, great condition. I live in Chicago, so do a mix of city/highway, but more city driving.

Can anyone recommend the best plug? My default would be to buy a Bosch Platinum, but I know for some cars, these aren't the best choice...

Thanks in advance!

Gavin

Well I have owned three Volvo turbo's and ran factory Volvo plugs with zero problems. 660K miles combined between the three cars.

Posts accumulate quickly over the weekend and yours might have gotten buried.
But why the beef? The answers for this thread will likely contain the info you seek.

I only mention, what I have noticed.
No bad feelings at all.
Maybe its the way people ask or
the way some posts are written.
I'll work on that.
Have fun
;)

You might have noticed a distinct disdain for Bosch plugs in the answers.
I was trying to be fair, but, in fact, I also run NGK BP7ES in my B230FT.

I am with T-Bone on this one - get NGK BPR6ES and replace them yearly. Don't mess with the fancy plugs. I have less faith in Bosch plugs simply because they now market 1, 2 and 4 ground electrode plugs and demand huge money for them. Generally speaking, the huge growth in spark plug variations and pricing is the result of the reduced maintenance modern engines require. No more cap, rotor, points, condenser etc - just plugs. So folks like Bosch overwhelm us with all these variations. They are not the only ones though, even NGK has iridium plugs and the like.

You probably didn't find a recommended oil brand, either.
If a plug is listed to work in your engine, it probably will; the rest is experience, and , above all, opinion.
My opinion is: use cheap plugs; there's not much to be gained from expensive ones except the "lightweight racing wallet" syndrome. NGK, ND, standard Bosch, Autolite, etc. qualify.

Gavin,

My Turbo Bricks don't like platinum plugs ... I found they run best on the NGK BPR7ES. That's mostly highway driving. The slightly hotter Bosch WR7DC or NGK BPR6ES may work better for mixed driving. All are copper plugs. I change mine out every 15k miles on the Turbos. Right now I testing some Bosch W7DTC in my sons old 244Ti. They seem to work well but I don't think they are performing better than the much less expensive W7DC. I'd go with NGK or Bosch single ground electrode coppers for the best performance and value. Just my $.02

Thanks for the great advice. The NGK's it will be, then!
